Location: Transportation Program – Local Grocery Stores
Time Commitment: Flexible; typically 1–2 hours per shopping trip, weekdays during business hours
Many of our transportation clients are no longer able to drive but still wish to shop for their own groceries. While our volunteer drivers provide safe, door-to-door transportation, Shopping Helpers offer the additional support some clients need to navigate the store independently. This role helps older adults maintain choice, dignity, and independence while ensuring they can access healthy food.
What You’ll Do
- Accompany clients through the grocery store, offering assistance as needed while allowing them to make their own shopping decisions.
- Help read labels, locate products, reach items on shelves, push the shopping cart, and carry groceries to the checkout.
- Assist with loading groceries into the vehicle at the end of the shopping trip.
- Provide friendly conversation and encouragement, helping create a positive and comfortable shopping experience.
Interested? Submit a volunteer application through our volunteer hub, MyImpactPage.com, or contact Alex Villeda, Transportation Coordinator, at alex@sebastopolseniorcenter.org.
We also need volunteers on an ad-hoc basis for event and admin support, grounds keeping, and more.
