Our Mission And Policies
Our Mission
To create and maintain an environment that encourages independence for older adults by providing learning, social, and recreational opportunities in the continued pursuit of a fulfilling and healthy life. We educate the community about the issues related to the aging process.
Our Values Statement
We, the Board, staff, and volunteers of the Sebastopol Area Senior Center, love our seniors! We respect their wisdom and history, enjoy their humor, appreciate their contributions to society, and address their changing needs with good programs and support. No senior needs to face the challenges of aging alone.
Our Diversity Statement
The Sebastopol Area Senior Center welcomes people of every family composition, sexual orientation, physical and mental ability, religious background, ethnicity, race, and gender. We encourage people to participate fully in every aspect of the Senior Center’s life and activities.
What We Hold Sacred
Fairness | Aging in Place | Respect | Independence | Innovation | Excellence | Support | Compassion | Life Experience | Community | Meaningful Life
We reach out to all seniors, keeping our services affordable specifically as an outreach to those in lower income brackets.
Our Policies
To better serve the needs of our entire senior community, the Sebastopol Area Senior Center and The Legacy (collectively referred to as “SASC”), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has instated the following policies:
Pet Policy
SASC only allows service animals (legally defined as dogs and miniature horses) into our buildings. If you bring a service animal to SASC, we will ask you if the animal is a service animal, and what service the animal is trained to provide. Please read our pet policy: HERE!
Registration Policy
Our classes fill quickly, so to ensure we can welcome as many participants as possible, please review the policies below:
Pre-registration
You may pre-register for up to 4 weeks at a time.
(Example: If you call on Jan 1, you can register for classes occurring between Jan 1–Feb 1.)
Arriving late
Classes begin promptly. If you arrive late or do not arrive, your spot may be given to someone on the waitlist.
If you know you’ll be late, please call us.
Cancellations
Please contact us at least 24 hours in advance if you’re unable to attend—whether your class is free or has a fee.
This allows us to offer your spot to someone waiting and issue a credit to your account.
No-show policy
If you miss a class without notice on the day of the class, no refund or credit can be provided.
Refunds
Refunds cannot be issued to your original payment method. Eligible cancellations will be credited to your SASC wallet.
Cancellations for day trips cannot be credited or refunded unless we are able to fill your spot.
No changes or cancellations can be made within 24 hours of the trip.
No refunds or credits will be issued for cancellations on Day Trips unless we can fill your spot.
No changes or cancellations can be accommodated within 24 hours of the trip date.
If you have been awarded a scholarship, no credits are able to be accommodated.
We appreciate your understanding!
