I have observed the frustration of Seniors with their struggle to use cell phones, DVD players, TIVO, but predominantly computers. Often well meaning family and friends attempt to teach, with poor results, because they don't realize what a challenge it is for the elderly. Learning from a professional improves their chance for success. Learning begins with basic computer skills. Moving and clicking the mouse while trying to assimilate what is happening on the computer screen may be daunting in the beginning. Fortunately more and more Seniors are learning how to use their computers safely. They are learning how to keep in touch with their grandchildren and their family members by using the internet and eMail. Computer training is helping Seniors live better connected lives. |

As a teacher, my goal is to address and reduce the increasing

Stacey Mortenson, B.A. is our computer teacher at the Sebastopol Area Senior Center. Here are things she can do for you:

As the world of technology expands, I feel strongly that we must not exclude the elderly. As a Teacher, I am very proud of my "Silver Surfer" students; so many of them have come a long way. I am excited knowing that my computer classes will keep growing as more Seniors refuse to be left behind. |
